Energy Efficient Cooking

Around the world people are trying to do their bit to help the environment and reduce their energy consumption by turning off lights when not in use, walking instead of taking the car and washing clothes at a lower temperature.

Here are some ways you can save energy when cooking. Use two smaller pans for macaroni and cheese instead of one big pan; they’ll cook quicker, using less energy. Baking in glass or ceramic dishes often means you can turn the oven temperature down 25 degrees. The difference between a simmer and a boil is just a degree or two, but it takes a tremendous amount of energy to clear that hump. Vegetables and grains cook just as evenly in simmering water.
